Application Programming Interface.
ok whats an Application Programming Interface.
Gonna take a Wild guess maybe it interfaces programming applications?
It a porn site facilitator
a set of functions and procedures allowing the creation of applications that access the features or data of an operating system, application, or other service.
Ah.
Its a windows thingy
Excellent description - because if it wasn’t opaque it would take a zero off the end of our day rate, right?
The steering wheel, the pedals and the gearstick are the API layer in a car.
They give you a simplified way to get what you need from the car. You don’t need to know any of the complexities behind the scenes because they abstract away from the detail of combustion, compression, ignition, exhaust, final gear ratios, differentials, etc.
Companies like Google offer services that do vastly complex things but they provide a simplified API (Application Programming Interface).
In this instance, Google collates and manages a massive library of GIFs. I’ve no idea how it does it behind the scenes, but if I get an API key and follow some “basic instructions”*, Google will allow me to gain access to it.
Think of an API as a way of putting layers of simplification in front of a complex process so that others can use it without needing to know the complexities involved.
*
Basic Instructions
# set the apikey
apikey = "API_KEY" # click to set to your apikey
ckey = "my_test_app" # set the client_key for the integration
# get the GIF's id and search used
shard_gifs_id = top_8gifs["results"][0]["id"]
search_term = "excited"
r = requests.get("https://tenor.googleapis.com/v2/registershare?id=%s&key=%s&client_key=%s&q=%s" % (shard_gifs_id, apikey, ckey, search_term))
if r.status_code == 200:
pass
# move on
else:
pass
# handle error
Not a bad explanation
And despite the protestations of Mrs P_F i was selling security event management SAAS before SAAS was a thing and world beating Event Management (conference & exhibitions) SAAS until Covid destroyed the industry and the company.
Still have a route to their IP and their API’s enabled next level data integration
Great training for life as a Tour Guide
FFS
So @PhilippineSaint in Engerlish
An API is an (almost) back door that allows you to plug your clever shit into someone else’s clever shit to make yours even more clever.
Example the API allows the genius of our members to post shit that the planet never sees
Nailed it
That’s a bit insensitive, given that it’s Easter.
So can we still use the word cunt?
Point of note.
My 4 year old Samsung eunning Android still doesn’t parse BBC links properly.
No issue to me but keeps @BTripz busy.
Seems the little next to the reply button below the posting box isnt even there anymore
Absolutely.
Back in the day it used to be compulsory on Cunt Tuesday.
Can you expand? How are the links not parsed correctly?
Can you send a screenshot?
Also, what’s the significance of the blue and why is it a problem that it isn’t there anymore?
Why does the cunt word blur itself out untl you click on it ?
It’s the way the BBC apps copy links, they include the heading in it, like this…
Champions League quarter-finals: Tuchel, Guardiola, Lampard, Kvaratskhelia, Benfica - Champions League quarter-finals: Tuchel, Guardiola, Lampard, Kvaratskhelia, Benfica - BBC Sport
So, when you paste the link, put your cursor just before the URL and hit return on your virtual keyboard.
Sorted
Because you have a mod with too much power and a sensitive soul.
It’s a blur spoiler and it’s been around for a long time - nothing to do with the latest update.
Press the cog when you’re posting and click Blur Spoiler…
…and you’ll get something like this:
This text will be blurred
It actually inserts the text
This text will be blurred
Any text you put between the
and the
will be blurred until the user clicks it.
You don’t have to click the button to insert it. You could just type the
and the
manually.
I thought that would be obvious, you legend.
What little next to the reply button, don’t remember ever seeing one of those.
