:mapoftasmania: Discourse Downgrade…

Mine is fine too…

Except the clipping of the text I mentioned above.

Mr @NotBletch sir its a Samsung android

I am pretty sure I did no such thing and downloaded it from the App store, but it was two years ago.

If there was a mandate to delete it and load the Discourse app, instead, with luddite proof directions obviously, I missed it, sorry. Did not even know there was a Discourse app, much less that I need it :open_mouth:

Nope, no such mandate. The Discourse app (from the app store) predates the more modern way of installing a Discourse app as a Progress Web App.

Out of interest are you on Samsung - like @PhilippineSaint ?

I’ll have a play around and see if I can put the images in the format Discourse wants and then I might get you to uninstall and reinstall that app - with full Luddite-compatible instructions.

Bit embarrassing as I once worked in IT. But I had people to find emojis for me.

Looks like a known bug in Android…

tl;dr There was a bug in Google’s code that made the logo smaller each day :lou_lol:

It looks like you will need to uninstall Sotonians and re-install it as a Progress Web App.

I’ll post some instructions.

Anyone else intrigued about a folder on @BTripz phone called “spurt”

Nope.

Huwaeii for me

Thanks

Nope just the porn folder although they are normally on the second screen.

Uninstall and Re-install Sotonians

So if you’ve got @Bucks’s “it’s small and getting smaller everyday” issue, this might help.

1. Find the icon for current Sotonians App (Progressive Web App - NOT Discourse from the App Store)

2. Long click / tap on it to bring up the context menu

3. Press the Information symbol

4. Click to Uninstall App

5. Click OK to Uninstall

6. Open up a (modern) browser and go to the Sotonians home page

7. Find the menu item to “Install app” and click it (may be different in your browser)

8. The App should now be installed on your phone’s desktop

NOTE: The Sotonians app will (probably) be installed in the next available space on the desktop so you may have to scroll through your desktop pages to find it.

Yep…gives an unprofessional first impression even before they realise we’re all a bunch of…etc etc.

And its back to full size

Thanks geeks :+1::+1:

Ditto. Cheers @NotBletch

Seems like the app-era equivalent of switch it off and then on again, AKA as “no idea what’s wrong but try this” :smirk:

Keep an eye on it @Bucks as a) I think the bug was in Google’s WebKit (so that needs to be updated on your phone for the fix to be permanent) and b) you’re brave enough to use Huawei so no idea when or how those updates make their way to your phone

Don’t worry about my device. It predates the Trump tyrannical tirade about all things Huaweii (and WeChat, which I use, as do several billion Asian folk and a truck load of big US businesses).

As a result I still get all the Google updates and fixes.

I think I’ve made this better, ‘slowlane. Can you take a look when you get a mo’?

You might need to close the app and re-open or maybe reload the browser screen to force it use the new logo.

Cheers!

This is my loading screen, now.

Why is the app logo disfigured?

I vaguely remember in the far distant past it was because we cant be arsed to change it.

Any chance of maybe reducing the “weve been upgraded” graphic?
Want to see if i need to rant about loading speed or if that has been the cause.
