⚰ Death

I think the issue is more that every single channel and satiation went into a rolling tribute - they recorded thirty minute of content, put it on repeat and took the rest of the day off

Set aside one channel / station and even refer to them in the news bulletin of the others, but what they did was a bit excessive

The problem is not many people cared as much as the media made out

BBC 4 was simply taken off air

I think @CB-Saint nailed it is his subsequent post tbh. I’d like to think we’ve moved on as a society, which going be the fact so many complained suggests we have.

Simply, the Royal Family are less relevant today than they have ever been and generally we give less of a toss about them than before. This is brought into sharper focus when so many of their “subjects” (fucking hate that word) have suffered badly during the last 13 months.
Sympathies with them for losing one of their family, but i’m not going to be told i have to enter into national mourning. And i don’t want Gardeners World shunted off a Friday night either. Cunts.

I can honestly say that apart from the minute’s silence at the start of two football matches, I didn’t see or hear a single second of any of it. I didn’t purposely avoid it, either.

And while I suppose I just about get why people are complaining about the BBC as a public service organisation having blanket coverage, are you saying that they were moaning in droves to the BBC because all the other channels which the beeb aren’t responsible for were doing the same thing? If so, aren’t the BBC supposed to “compete” up to a point, in order to justify the licence fee? If, as you seem to be saying, every other channel was swamping their output with tributes I’d have thought there would be some onus on the beeb to do the same.

Like I said, by all means have your flagship channel / station broadcast wall to wall coverage - but not every single channel / station under your control - Radion 4 off air, all other BBC radio stations playing dirges, BBC 1,2 showing the same stuff

The viewing figures collapsed as everyone went onto the streaming services - if they were competing for viewers, they were doing a particularly shit job of it

Channel 4 just had an extended news on Friday evening, I think ITV went a bit overboard but normal programmes were resumed later in the evening. The BBC not only put a blank screen on BBC4 all night, they did the same to the kids station CBBC, with a notice on the screen instructing them to switch over to 1 or 2 for an important news bulletin. Kids? It was way over the top, but it just shows the extent to which the BBC are cowering under the new regime that has been installed to run the show. Terrified of being perceived as not being patriotic enough. It’s interesting that the dedicated site they installed for people to complain was taken down after it was inundated, not because it crashed or anything, but because it came under pressure from several Tory MPs who were outraged that the BBC were “making it too easy for people to complain”. A BBC Breakfast presenter, Charlie Stayt, has been coming under pressure too, because his suit was deemed not to be dark enough and his demeanor not sombre enough. Which is ironic, because Johnson looked like he had just been dragged out of bed when he paid his tribute, hair all over the place and his tie askew, which was noted in a few of the less hysterical papers.

The BBC’s current excuse is that they closed it after demand dropped - allegedly

And slowed down Netflix access noticeably- well, it was slow here.

This is hilarious.

I lasted less than a minute before I shut it down

He makes some good points. Could have done without the long clips of politicians talking out of there arses though

That was the hilarious part.

They didn’t look good

Gogglebox had more viewers than BBC1, BBC2 and ITV combined.

Starmer is about as much a Royalist as Oliver Cromwell - he is just grubbing around for votes

I loathe Harman with an inexplicable vengeance. I really do. Politicians aren’t usually my favourite people, but there’s something about her that really boils my piss.
