Excellent news - expected nothing less form the valient front line troops. Maybe a little ‘girliness’ from CoxLou (which is forgiven on acount of her XY chromosome combination) and from butler Bletch given he is an old women.
Lou has a XY chromosome combination?
I’m gutted
Well, that explains why I keep trying to scratch my non existent balls.
Back and sober enough to report on what I remember of the game.
First, Anfield has changed a lot in 20 years, and I’m not just talking about the yet-to-be-completed stadium expansion. I used to refer to Anfield as a temple of football. These days, it’s more like a CoE church where everyone is going out of a sense of obligation, and the crowd goes through the motions before each game.
That’s their ultra-quiet fans, right next to the away lot, all fucking sat down.
All of this, after me defending LFC for their long-term demand for season tickets. Should have known what to expect when drinking in the Arkles. The Saints fans were a pretty raucous lot, so went over to solicit the opinions of some LFC fans that just had to listen to it.

Any player assessments etc. from those who were there? I’m particularly interested in views on how Clasie looked, as he’ll have had more time to get fully fit and also to get used to the pace etc. of the Prem. I’d also love to hear Barry’s views on Ward-Prowse’s and Ramirez’ contributions.*
To add a rare football thought, having seen the highlights, it was evident that Bertrand was going to close Milner down, just before their goal. But with other LFC players close by (needing marking) he changed his mind and urged Mane to go to Milner. At that point Mane was not adding anything defensively. Partly through a lack of effort, but partly because of indecision by both players, no one got there and Milner has all the time in the world to deliver the excellent cross. A poor moment in a game where we defended well, proved costly.
I thought Clasie had a solid game. Broke up play and won his fair share of tackles. Overhit a couple of passes but I love the way he looks to play the early pass. Barry disagreed obviously
I particularly enjoyed the ‘Gaston Ramirez he’s back from the dead’ chant.
There was a lot of love, I suspect ironic at first, for ol’ Gaston as he was warming up on the sidelines.
Other favourite chants were of course, “we fucking hate you” for our former captain and chief betrayer in the year we were sending players to World Cups again. Also, “he only lasts sixty minutes”, which would please most ladies in the bedroom, but proved to be disapppointingly premature on the pitch again. Finally, whenever he fluffed something, a big “that’s why we let him go” went about the place.
Our fans were not consistently excellent; there were a couple of quiet patches, but a very decent performance from our lot. Would have been lovely to see Pelle not slip and have the place fucking erupt. St Mary’s, perhaps.
Koeman happy with Clasie’s first Premier League start.
Koeman was very pleased with the performance of his summer arrival and with the way Wanyama and he developed as the match wore on.
Koeman said“I think he play well.
“He was aggressive, I think he was a good couple on our midfield with Victor Wanyama and Jordy together.
“Ok, to know exactly if a player is really back you have to give the player that opportunity and sometimes it’s easier to start the game than to come on in the second half.
I see the topic that was raised back when we played the 'Pool has reared its head again. Klopp apparently felt alone as the Liverpool fans started leaving after what was to become Palace’s winner. There has been quite a bit of comment on it on podcasts (Football Weekly were saying that the atmosphere has been crap for years) as well as in articles, where it’s claimed that early leavers are all across the Premier League.
I agree to an extent, but not the “we’re only two one down” extent, so I reckon Klopp has a point.
