Claude

So, according to the Daily Mail, he’s off as soon as the season ends

2 things that worry me about that article

a) Marco Silva
b) Saints won’t be rushed into appointing a new manager. :lou_facepalm_2:

We should get that Silva bro to do the home games, and have Puel do the away games.

How about Silva for the home games and Moyes for the away - that would be a better fit.

Perhaps with Bilic as a director of football, and Rolf Harris doing the PR.

According to The Times, Marco Silva is in his way to Watford.

I think I might of posted this link last year, just after Puel joined us, but if not it’s worth a read.

Nice … the alternative football success story

The article details his work with Nice, a club, historically, not too disimilar to ourselves in ranking and pecking order. It makes a good case for how we really shouldn’t be writing him off just yet.

We haven’t seen the half of what he’s capable of yet and it would be madness to get rid of him now.

See another playing member of the Claude appreciation society is Mouez Hassen, interviewed by France Football (https://www.francefootball.fr/news/Mouez-hassen-a-nice-j-ai-merde-j-etais-jeune-et-con/802647).

Apart from singing the praises of the Premier League and how great his move has been for him (including helping him to grow up), he says that he only came because of Claude. There’s mutual respect, if Mouez is crap Claude says so, he needs to be patient, Claude will tell him when he is ready to play etc.

Not sure I can buy the lost dressing room thing, IF Claude is going it’s because the fans aren’t convinced.

Cheers, thanks Steve. See somebody’s put a Google translation up - http://readsouthampton.com/2017/05/20/hassen-enjoying-life-southampton/. Nice to know the Premier League atmosphere is “sick”, think they mean “really mental”… :lou_lol:

I’m still in the out camp personally. We’ve been through several different formations this season but our style of play hasn’t changed one iota. The really frustrating thing for me is a lack of midfield support - Claude being a defensive midfielder in his playing career is probably fixated on them screening the defence properly which only serves to isolate our forwards.

I’d love to see some more dynamism in the team, everybody working as a unit rather than in blocks. Under Poch we hunted in packs when closing down, the team was so fluid it was a joy to watch. Even though they’ve been very patchy in 2017 i’ve been very impressed with Huddersfield’s David Wagner who employs a similar tactic. If they lose in the playoffs we could do worse.

The guy in the artical sounds great.

In other news…

PUEL FUTURE UNSURE

Southampton manager Claude Puel’s future hangs in the balance this afternoon as the club considers who would replace the Frenchman if he leaves, Sky Sports News HQ understands.

Director of Football Les Reed has concluded his end-of-season review for chairman Ralph Krueger and we understand the club is already considering who would take charge at St Mary’s if Puel leaves.

Speculation over the Frenchman’s future has persisted since before the final game of the season with chairman Ralph Krueger suggesting that a decision over the 55-year-old’s position at St Mary’s was to be decided last month.

Puel remains on holiday but has received no assurances over his future after securing Southampton an eighth place finish in the league and reached the League Cup final.

I hear he’s at Cannes at the launch of his latest film, Gone in Seven Days.

Didn’t know which thread to put this in - Chinese Takeover, Claude, VVD etc - but former Sotonian Jack Schitt has said this on twitter…

I have a lot of notifications asking for info, and didn’t want to ignore anyone, but there is not much to say at present. There are some things happening behind the scenes that are about to reach conclusions either way over the next few days, the outcomes of which affect all aspects of the Club Operationally.

We are effectively at a crossroads as a Club. And decisions made over the coming days will shape the direction we take going forward. There is a brief moment of uncertainty about what that direction will be [from the options available] until these situations resolve, but everything else rests upon it. Once these matters reach their conclusions, then there will be much more that can be said, about what has happened internally during the last six months, players in/out, manager situation etc.

Until then, I was asked to wait for a green light before passing on any specifics from our recent talk [and was only given a few glimpses of the future myself]. Apologies, but hopefully soon, I will receive and be able to share more.

I don’t know about you guys but that pretty much clears everything up for me… ha

He’s a tough one to figure, Jack Schitt. That statemement there does read like the work of a master troll, but if I was a master troll, and to some extent I am, I’d still be bathing in my Fame & Accomplishments on here. I am swing voter between Master Troll, Well Meaning Fantasist, and Bro Who Knows A Security Guard At SMS Or Something Like That And Gets Carried Away.

I’ve kind of ruled out Highly Connected Unnofficial Club Spokesperson

Why ??

He’d of been better off not posting anything until he had some real news

Personally I think he is a genius, unappreciated in his own time. The only person I know of who can use 182 words and say absolutely fuck all in the process!
