Good luck Mr T

Sounds like you’re pretty much prepared as you can be.

Knock 'em dead - figuratively not literally

:lou_lol:

I have worked for a few family business and they do employ family members who have not got a clue and others that just want to keep their hand in mummy and daddy’s business. The main issue is they do not trust outsiders and think they are after something for nothing, when really they want to take a look much closer to home.

I ask myself the question all the time, now I am close to taking on a member of staff. Would I take on family, or someone with the right CV and it would be the latter for the good of my business and to go to the next level.

Okeydoke. Tomorrows the day. I’ve been hammering away at the practice tests on https://www.assessmentday.co.uk and so far things are looking pretty good. Recently I’ve been finishing in the 90+ percentile on both numerical and inductive so I’ve definitely got it in the tank.

I done the first one of them test things out of Interest. It was one where there was bunch of shapes and you had to say which bunch of shapes another shape should be lump in with. I found it v.difficult, cos there was also an option of it don’t fit neither bunch, but how do you know if it is neither bunch, or if you just ain’t spotted it yet? You must be v.clever. I was only in with the 30 something percentile bros. No wonder I can only get shit job for Dumbasses!

Ok! That was OK I think. Like I say, I can’t promise anything but put it this way - if you were to offer me the chance to either settle for how things went today or to ‘gamble’ and do the whole thing again tomorrow. I’d stand pat.

None the wiser as to whether I’m through as its bastardingly hard and a very intense/challenging 4 hours, but I can look back without any real regrets. (tell you guys in detail in person for drinks tomorrow pre-Sparta?)

Thanks for the support everyone. Thanks also for the advice. I’m a mouthy cunt at the best of times but I’m more than willing to take a bollocking from people older & more experienced than I am - so cheers for everything.

Its practice mate. One you know what you’re looking for (rotation, increasing numbers of sides, alternating colours, order of shapes etc.) your brain just zooms in on them straight away. It’s the maths that I find the toughest!

Having spent 17 years in an accounts role, until 15 months ago, I would advise against it. Soul distroying to say the least. I would advise against any office jobs! Zzzzzzzzz

Woohoo! I’ve just been told I’ve passed the assessment centre. My goal of Portugal-ing my way to the job moves a step closer.

OK; Monday 17th October is the date of my final interview (with a partner or senior member of staff).

Hopefully by the time Saints kick off in Milan i’ll be able to say that I’m an accountant in the making.

This is excellent news for the much mooted Project Mayhem phase of Sotonians.

The destruction of corporate artwork was always on the agenda. It’ll be a bonus to have a man on the inside :lou_sunglasses:

The first sotonians sleeper cell oozes from the site’s moist loins.

Jeez, hope PWC don’t monitor Sotonians.com otherwise you have right royally fucked up Mr T’s job prospects…

Cheers for the support guys. It’s a weird one because at this stage, I’ve _heard _that it’s more-or-less yours to lose, but I’m taking nothing whatsoever for granted and will certainly make sure I’m well-prepared for a serious grilling (which, as a slightly older applicant (26), I may well have coming my way).

A friend of mine at Deloitte tells me that he was able to look on their intranet, and found that the pass rates for the partner interview were 90% and 91% for their two audit schemes. Not sure it’s quite as high as that for PwC but fingers crossed.

JxgrSaint has been an absolute legend throughout this process and has emailed me some terrific advice that I’ll certainly look to put into practice (may well shoot you a few more questions in the final run-up mate). I’m usually decent enough at interviews… but who knows? There’s always a chance they just don’t like your face. :lou_lol:

Obviously there’s a fair old while between now and the 17th so I’m going to take it easy for this weekend and just try and enjoy the success of having made it this far. Then, i’ll have two weeks & weekends to really knuckle down and learn their business inside out.

My advice for any interview or meeting is, think of the last question you want them to ask and be ready for it.

That, and strut in like you own the fucking place.

Morning Mr T. What makes you think you have a chance of working here after strolling in this morning with your cock hanging out of your fly?

Happy to help, feel free to email me any questions

On the older applicant front - in my intake group we are split into classes for college to pass the first set of exams. In my class of 30 people, there are 2 28 year olds, 3 26 year olds and the average age is 23-ish so I wouldn’t worry that much.

If if anything the fact that you’ve experienced the working world and then realised that this is what you want to do will stand you in better stead - you can answer ‘Why Accountancy/PwC?’ questions more believably than someone who just graduated and has no idea what working life entails or why they really want to do it (of which there are many).

Anyway, good luck with the prep :+1:

I remeber this, maybe from this forum, but don’t do this…

Interviewer : What are your weaknesses?

Mr T : Honesty.

Interviewer : I don’t think honesty is a weakness.

Mr T : I don’t give a fuck what you think!

Might be extremely obvious but be yourself… Too often we see candidates that have ‘overdosed’ on web-based prep to try and predict how ‘best’ to answer certain questions or respond to certain scenarios… .and whilst often factually reasonable, tend to be dull and repetitive.

Differentiate yourself by being true to what you actually believe and not true to what you think they want to hear.
