Yaaaaaaaaaaaawn
Weāve had one of these for decades.
The idiots guide to why supply and demand is not the only factor in employment and wages post Brexit⦠For ease of communication, we will use aunit of 100 jobs to iluustrate the point
Current situationā¦
100 Job filled by 85 UK citzens and 15 EU nationals. Wages held down in many cases as there are another 10-15 EU nationals willing to take the place of any who do not wish work for the wages levels on offer . This is smple Papconomics
(NB.This will tend to be mostly blue collar jobs, aswhite collar tend to follow a more competitive laws - eg. salaries are pretty standardised for level and experience - no issue with supply and demand as annual cohort in takes
Potential post Brexit situation 1: Papconomics
100 jobs but only 85 UK citizens left to fill them - so supply and demand means wages go up⦠is it not wonderful?
Potential post Brexit situation 2: more complex reality
100 jobs becomes first 90 and the 80 as our export markets shrink, both through external tarifs and additional production costs as we attempt to manaufacture more in UK (that is papconomics) as opposed to abroad⦠thus less competitive goods, and less demands for our goods and services meaning shrinkage of demand as labour market shrinks⦠pushing wages down due to over supply if UK workers (cant blame the stinky foreigners anymore) ⦠alternatively, we need to ship more manufacturing and services abroad to cheeper labour markets so that we can remain competitive after tarriffs applied⦠meaning our 80 jobs goes doen even further with a disproportionate number of these jobs disappearing from the blue collar sector asopposeed to white collar⦠sort of pretty shhit from a socialist perspective really, but hey who cares we got our country back and we have food banks because we care like in the Blitz and and where we showed the hun, unlike those French surrender monkeysā¦
Influx of cheaper labour - why it can be good
It has been shown that cheaper labour can mean creation of more competitive goods and services - leading to growth. This growth creates more demand for labour which can provide opportunity for additioanl migrants and also begin to see wages increase (yes this does happen as companies invest in upskilling workers from both UK and abroad). It also represents a more balanced social agenda. The UK should be a land of oppportunity, cultural diversity, and social unity and repsonsibility . Forgive me for believing that this kind of thing is important. BUt its something I happen to believe in. It may be idealistic, but I am not the only oneā¦
To be fair, the Eton motto is Nil Fightus Hobbitus.
You are not writing that from a windowsill in Downing Street are you? Hold on a minute⦠are we related?
ffs bletch, not you. I know we are related. First time you post in ages and its to get in the way of my post. Typical!
We are.
Iām your dad.
Remember?
Obviously, it depends on how you choose to measure it, but this chart gives you an idea of economic growth in the UK. The Brexit effect is hitting us hard. Interestingly, Indiaās economy was barely touched by the financial crash and it soldiering on quite happily.
I am bletexiting that relationship.
On second thoughts it makes more sense that your brother is my progeny.
I like him more, solely because you donāt like him.
Itās surely no coincidence that Iāve got the Nobel prize for shirts (sub cateogry Shirts and Blouses).
looks like more damage wazs done pre Brexit vote than after - what was going on in 2014? The Greek issue?
Youāve spent too much time with northerners Pap.
Blame me ma.
When I was five, she told me that if I came in crying again, sheād give me a reason to cry.
I never came home crying again. I did hospitalise the mush over the road that was bullying me. Mild concussion.
The rest is historyā¦
Oi. Iāll have you know Iāve had to put myself in harmās way _twice _this year.
My minder has got a new girlfriend and has been spending his time playing with her instead of protecting me.
Thank fuck it never came to blows in either occasion, or Iād have been mullered.
Some people run from trouble, some people meet it halfway, others are glad to pay for its cab fare over.
If you are even half as argumentative, belligerent and stubborn in real life as you are online, I imagine your daily life has violence levels rarely seen outside of war zones.
fucking hell Iām finding it very hard to keep track of all this what with the conflicting data being presented, was it 1992 or 1997 Pap won a fight? As I find it very hard to beleive he has won 2.
I did hospitalise the mush over the road that was bullying me. Mild concussion.
The rest is historyā¦
Come on Pap, change your pic, save me the trouble.
Weāre all a little bit more truculent online.
My online persona has been pretty consistent. Iām nice until others arenāt, then I reserve the right to use both barrels. I also probably catch the most crap on this site bar Bazza. All I can say is that I get a lot less upset than others when things are directed my way.
And make no mistake, when people are firing broadsides at 17.2m people, of which Iām one, I do see that as stuff coming my way. Itās been a very worthwhile experience from a campaigning perspective, completely changing the way I deal with Tory voters. Youāre never going to bring anyone around to your point of view by mislabelling.
I say that with full knowledge that Iāve done exactly the same thing with Vichy Britain, but thatās after over a year of us Leave voters getting stickered with every pejorative in the Remainersā arsenal, from dimwit to fantasist to racist.
The problem with labels is they leave no nuance. Look at the way that this site uses nationalism in a purely pejorative way, when just North of the border, weāve a nationalist party that is looking out for Scotlandās interests first, yet no-one accuses them of being supremacists. Every single one of us with a family practices nationalism in microcosm. We look after our nearest and dearest first before allocating resources to people that are further outside that bubble. Here, youād be mistaken for thinking nationalism is synonymous with racial supremacy.
I want the interests of UK citizens to be looked after, no matter what colour, creed, religion, sexual orientation they are. My definition of British is those that are born here, or those that have chosen to become British citizens and gone through the process. I want us to continue to welcome immigrants to this country from all over the world. I want us to turn our multiculturalism into an asset that defines who we are, not a device for politicians and media barons to divide us.
And yes, I do put the interests of those I define as British before those that have come here for quick money, or those that benefit from their cheap labour. If that makes me a nationalist, so be it.
Apart from the toffs obviously. They can fucking have that mild concussion any day of the week they like and twice on Sundays.
