The sad fact is its folks being obsessed with labels as opposed to us all being determined to ensure equality and eliminate prejudices.
The obsession with these labels plays into the hands of those who oppose openly or otherwise the elimination of these prejudices as it provides opportunity to ridicule the silliness of trying to apply words and labels that have direct links to our DNA with a broader definition…

It’s not really about labels. There are some serious issues for the lesbian community.

We only really need one label ‘people’ or ‘human’ which we all are, everything else is to divide us into neat little packages - something that has historic context - deliberately creating divisions and ultimately creating categories for prejudices. If divisions are necessary and as Rowling suggests, sometimes they are to protect the integrity of safe spaces, then its fair enough, but ultimately the obsession with being considered part of one group or another and labeled as thus, has always caused more harm than good, given its a perfect opportunity for those who like to practice their prejudices to place folks in these convenient categories/labels?
The cotton/boxer ceiling - this is sadly IMHO not a messed up woke thing, its just people being cunts to other people because they dont find them attractive and bullying them into relationships and its not limited to these definitions - people have been trying to manipulate folks into relationships of all kinds for years - its something some cultish humans do, irrespective of sex, gender or sexual orientation
Rather than making this complex and applying it to ‘lablled’ groups - its much more effective to call these folks out for behaving like a cunt to fellow humans - our choices of partner our ours to make and no one elses

Yep seems ridiculous, and ironic given they advocate inclusivity training…
But this supports my argument that without these labels, who would you sue? 
Minorities have had to group together to find support and safety and campaign for equality etc… its sad that this is necessary but its understandable.
The problem is that such extreme views of Mermaids (and it is extreme if in anyway defending cotton/boxer POV) detract from the real issues, which remain equality and removal of prejudices, because no one with logical sensibilities will ever suggest one person cannot self determine who they find attractive without prejudice…
Sadly a concept such as ‘woke’ - the idea that more of us are aware of the inherent prejudices in our society has been hijacked by both extremes - Those mostly on the right who have twisted it to ridicule, and those who it should benefit, by using it to try and defend the indefensible… but whatever, we should still all be more Woke…
With a stroke of luck Mermaids will lose and get stuck for the costs
That will make for some interesting conversations when their CEO next meets histheir donors with histheir begging bowl

It’s a cynical and ideologically motivated move. A significant proportion of the gay community are not as happy as Stonewall would have you believe about the T being included - justifiably so.
After years of fighting for legal protection and recognition for their own causes and the issue largely being settled, the umbrella gets wider and some of the people now under it are issuing death and rape threats online to people they don’t agree with.
You can understand why people might want to stand under a different umbrella.
