Not sure if anyone has seen the ad but seems the right to be offended at everything you don’t agree with is still going strong
Scotland have appointed their first “period dignity officer” and the successful candidate is…a man!!!
Needless to say women are not entirely impressed
Baroness Fox accused the government of “peak gender idiocy”
He is already being called the Menstrual Mansplainer
I think that as far as independence goes, the government can just wait for the SNP to hang itself. This is just ridiculous.
She could always simply avert her gaze if she finds the ad so offensive. Personally, I don’t see how something so innocuous has resulted in Ms Éclair becoming quite so exercised, but she always has the option of not buying Crown paint.
The laughs don’t stop coming.
The strongest person for the job
Apparently.
Does the job description include bench pressing?
Missed opportunity to label him Mr Blobby.
Lol
Probably not the first term that comes to our female brethren’s minds
The moon-faced madman Andrew Neil reckons Britain is more interested in diversity than talent. I know I started this thread on the woke-sceptic side, but I think he’s talking shit.
First off, diversity isn’t the issue in universities. It’s largely dogma and groupthink, which is pretty much the exact opposite of diversity, which is welcoming a panoply of perspectives. The dogma and groupthink is something that needs to be sorted. A lot of it is coming from lecturers, so funnily enough, this trend has continued. But it’s not diversity.
He’s also having a pop at some of the few jobs that are earmarked for certain people, either because there is a specific role where the background helps or British institutions trying to get their institutions to reflect the country it serves.
Neil is no doubt banking on the simplistic logic of his argument. You want the best people for the job. Who could disagree with that?
He perhaps forgets why so called diversity targets exist in the first place. Some of these institutions were so white that it was impossible for a person of colour to work there because of the additional burden of getting racist dog’s abuse.
Many black or brown people would never consider joining the Police for that reason, with only one or two outliers being brave enough to trudge through the shit.
If that remains the case, and people of colour continue to avoid these places in droves, we are going to miss out on some serious talent.
How can we be sure we’re getting the best person for the job?
Disturbing
Brave of you to post it all the same
Fuck me, its all gone rather Daily Mail on this thread…
Blinking flip, where (and when) did you go to University? (the 1970s?) Sorry, just not an experience that resonates with my time or those I know who went to a variety of institutions from local county colleges doing HNCs to Oxford MPhils. Bit of a huge generalisation
The rest I would agree with in that he Neil fails to grasp the purpose of targets and what they can help achieve in breaking down institutional ‘perspectives’
Is it The Duke of York?
Probably worth dropping this here. The OED definition of woke.
‘Aware of and alert to racial or social discrimination and injustice’. I plead guilty.
Now the word has been hijacked and weaponised by the right, the likes of Laurence Fox and Toby Young and others in the media leading the way. Now the word has been turned into the opposite of what it actually means, and is used as an attack vehicle by the Express, Sun, Mail etc, not to mention far right Conservative politicians, ie, most of them these days. It’s a shame.
Went to Uni in the mid to late '90s.
I suspect you went earlier.
Things are different now; lecturers with competing opinions get hounded out of their jobs these days, where that sort of thing used to be seen as an asset.
