šŸ¤– 🧠 AI is Sentient a Buzzword and Very, Very Dangerous

Just do not use them to do anything with personal data…

Is that all? Blimey, there’s nothing to worry about then, is there.

I was demoing interview software today

Within a couple of years you will be interviewed by a deepfake AI agent on zoom or team that will respond to your answers with follow up probing questions

It will also be able to psychometrically profile you from your answers / tone / style and body language

It is incredible

I know it sounds horrific but actually it could totally remove unconscious bias from the process

Clearly affecting 11 males in SO 4 region.

ChatGPT’s Impact On Our Brains According to an MIT Study | TIME

Yes peer reviewed

I don’t think it’s AI in and of itself causing the problem, a huge part of it is the marketing for AI doing all it can to convince us we’re all too inept to send an email let alone write an essay (I wrote the vast majority of my essays at uni still half cut from the night before and I got by ok). Sadly some people drink it in and become thicker as they voluntarily switch off their cognitive functions in the pursuit of an ā€˜easier’ life.

Really good and incredibly frightening interview with Steven Bartlett and the godfather of AI (their words) on youtube.

Actual stupidity beats artificial intelligence every time

I think it depends on where you are at in your career

at the start you learn by doing, AI is not going to help that

I use it extensively- I barely write anything these days. I am an editor. And it saves me a huge amount of time

If you use it extensively, its taken jobs already.

Recruitment is getting increasingly harder to make decent money - that is down to staff costs purely and simple - the last budget cost us Ā£200k. That is a serious lump of cash for an SME to swallow and it’s hard to pass on

Lob it the incoming worker rights bill and you start questioning whether employing people is worth it

We are introducing AI agents to do the initial screening and investigating installing delivery teams in SA and Philippines. I know one company who has a team of 4 recruiters working in Ethiopia.

The Uk is rapidly becoming uncompetitive

The death spiral of the west, the richer we become the less competitive we also become, no politician will ever have the balls to say this, all western countries need cheap labour but they can’t afford to pay for the infrastructure for this, most successful ā€œwesternā€ nations have serious human rights violations and extreme border/immigration control ie Singapore, Dubai and Saudi.

We can’t grow, retire young, have low immigration, low taxes without oil or gas, if you’re 60 now you’re the last generation that had everything of cheap housing, education, pensions, jobs for life and more, yet the generations below will pay for that and receive none of it.

This country is fucked along with most others, I can’t think of a nation that will prosper for 100 years, Australia maybe but water will inhibit growth and Chinese influence will become more pronounced.

Our kids are fucked basically because of short termism the west suffers from due to democracy, fuck we can’t build anything, deport anything or do anything without appeal, not saying that is bad I’m simply saying that is what makes us also uncompetitive.

The washing machine took jobs away. No more washer women or putting jobs through a mangle.

Taps took jobs away too. No more need to get people to go to fresh water sources.

Electricity took jobs away. P45 for all lamp-lighters.

Were those good jobs to have?

Are jobs, in and of themselves, a good thing, or just something we believe are a good thing because the alternative is living in poverty.

There are some that would say that the only difference between a job and slave contract is that you can change masters.

A paradigm shift is going to be needed for the inevitable automated future. If there is one thing that the pandemic taught us, it’s that not everyone needs to work, all the time.

Dignity from a days wage, if we sat around and did nothing what does that say for us as a human race? That wouldn’t happen as we naturally strive (some do many don’t).

Many say manual jobs AI can’t do are the only safe ones, I tend to agree, builders, sparks, plumbers if you’re good you earn a good wage, my mate who has a gang of sparks easily does over Ā£100,000 a year.

The change AI will have will be far more profound than anything we’ve seen since the internet.

I’m far from a Luddite but we’re not a competitive country against others in the tech industry surely? Why would anyone base tech in the UK?

Yay!

If the internet outage did this

Then imagine IF AI self learns itself from smaller and smaller samples and only in English.
