I am currently in West Wales, spending a week with my son and daughter. My daughter recently attended the 103rd birthday party of this remarkable guy. She is the senior editor at Parthian Press and she worked closely with him whilst he was writing his book. She said he totally defies his great age, was partying and guzzling champagne with the best of them! My daughter is the one with red hair and shades lurking at the back of the group picture.
So, that extra 2 inches is coming.
The Travel Hack is not to be a prick at the airport and have a wrong sized bag, the Hack is to collect Duty Free Airport Plastic Bags. Into this you place a layer of Undies or whatevver, then cover with your sandwiches and an empty plastic water bottle that (at Bournemouth) you can refill free of charge) I got 2 tubs of Bisto, 4 Tesco Premium Stuffing Mix and a Lardy cake home last month.
Off to Quinta do Lago tomorrow - not my choice. I suspect it will be full of arseholes famous infamous and wannabes
However I intend to eat fish and drink wine and do fuck all until Wednesday
Enjoy the rain assholes
Don’t forget to do the boat trip along the coast.
And don’t forget the factor 50, unlike ex Mrs P_F.
At least I got more golf in while she was confined
It’s been glorious over the last few days
I have eaten my body weight in fish and prawns and guzzled gallons of wine
Don’t worry. We’re staying put here - have done absolutely fuck all - the average day has been
Up late
Breakfast
A couple hours walking on the trails
Lunch
Nap
Dinner
Sleep
The ayatollah decided we were going to Villamoura today because we went there years ago
My advice is don’t
It is dead - and given that it’s high season that’s a bit of a give away
It has also gone down market
It’s crap
Margate on the Algarve without the craft beer scene to numb the pain
Pop down the road to Quarteira. Much nicer and half the price.
My view on Quinta do Lago
Soulless - no bars etc - bloody brilliant for a fly and flop which is what we are doing but if you want culture the closest I’ve come to it is the yoghurt in the breakfast buffet
Food is excellent - the restaurants are great - some of the best fish I have eaten anywhere worldwide
Walking is great, ditto cycling and the beaches
Which brings me to golf - 166 euros a round - fuck that
Even the mini golf is 14 euros for 9 holes which is more expensive than playing the local real golf course at home
But therecare liads of courses in that area inc a nice one in Villamoura. Surely not all that crazy cost?
Or is it just high season?
The villamoura old course is 200
the cheapest round here is 70-80 for the municiples
There is too much money round here for it to be reasonable
Sad
Live Aid 2 year, did 2 weeks in VM with ex Mrs P_F
I played 7 course while she did her beach thing we toured other days
Prob cost £200 for all of them back then and the hotel
Off to Sicily tomorrow staying in Taormina, syracuse and Palermo
Just in time to get away from the incoming deluge here
Shall send many photos of the sun
They might have finished it by now too.
Will be going up Etna on Saturday hoping to see some bubbly red stuff
I went there from SS Nevasa when I was about 14
Bought a useless mug made out of Lava - kept it for many years until ex Mrs P_F threw it at me.
That was it.
Divorce followed
Don’t buy any Mugs
Is she on the blob then?
He said Etna not Edna
