No follow-on then. Must have been tempting to enforce it, as the Windies bowlers would be nicely warmed up and not tired. Chances are they _really_ don’t want to be batting last on this pitch. ---

Here we are again, then. West Indies finished the second day on 127/6, a lead of 339. Not a great deal of batting to come, but they’ve quite clearly done more than enough already to win this match. When we come to bat again it would be good to see some application and obduracy, qualities thatwere sadly lacking in the first innings. Twice last summer, in the series against India, England slumped to 87/6 before recovering and going on to win the match. Yesterday we didn’t even get to the eighties. Just goes to show that you can’t retrieve a top- and middle-order collapse every time they happen. ---
