Bit mellow, but discovered watching McKenzie Cook’s comedy.
I have just bought a Fairport Convention compilation, 5 albums for 9 quid, bargain! Although I am of that age group I didnt really listen to them much back in the day, but if you like Folk Rock it doesnt come much better than this.
I loved early Fairports…had all their early albums and saw them a few times around the late '60s early '70s. Liege and Lief was the first real folk/rock album.
Missed this album earlier in the year but heard an interview with Mike Scott on 6 Music this afternoon and sought it out on YouTube. Bought it straight away
Went to see the Maccabees last night and they are really growing as a band and put on a very good show. It is the 4th time I have seen them now and they get better each time, by adding depth to their music.
So I am listening to the album Marks to prove it, but the song ‘Spit it out’ is a fantastic tune. They are not far of Arcade Fire with regards to live shows.
This is my album of the year so far. Saw them on Jools Holland and went out and bought the CD on the back of a couple of songs. It has barely been out of my CD player since.
The five albums in this box set are Fairport Convention, What We Did On Our Holidays, Unhalfbricking, Liege & Lief and Full House. Still working my way through them but for 9 quid you cant go wrong. All quality so far. Great shame that Sandy Denny died so young.
