Itā€™d be in my top 25 Iā€™d say, 'slowlane. But try as I might, I just havenā€™t been able to get into too much more of his other work. Itā€™s all quite enjoyable, but not in the same league as Illinoise - at least not to these ears. Anything youā€™d specifically recommend? ---

Jesus, has it really been ten years? Life is passing me by. Time keeps on ticking at what seems to be twice the speed of my motivation to do anything. Itā€™s a great album, listened to it all last week for the first time in a while. ---

It is difficult to recommend because everyone comes to the same point (e.g Illinois) via a different route. I arrived chronalogically in that my first was ā€œMichiganā€ in 2003 and then moved onwards. Obviously this is an advantage as you can never unhear something youā€™ve listened to ā€œout of timeā€ā€¦often going back through an artistā€™s catalogue youā€™re disappointed with earlier work. Thatā€™s not to say ā€œMichiganā€ wasnā€™t a good albumā€¦it is, just that ā€œIllinoisā€ was a ā€œquantum leapā€ If youā€™ve not heard ā€œMichiganā€ give it a go. ā€œThe Avalancheā€ is billed as ā€œIllinois Outtakesā€ but what outtakes! better than most artist manage in a career. Iā€™ve heard everything post ā€œMichiganā€ and nothing preā€¦probably for the stated reason. šŸ˜‰ Around Christmas time Iā€™ll start a dedicated ā€œSufjanā€™s Christmasā€ threadā€¦thereā€™s enough tracks to keep everyone entertained for the month of December. ---
