Nick Clegg has a lot to answer for - it’s starting to look like he was part of an incompetent government for several years.
Never understood the political will behind going after foreign students, other than blind xenophobia.
They rank amongst the best net contributors to this country, and put a lot of money in to our Universities. Baffling.

I actually think the glamour model Teresa May might be a better fit for Home Secretary.
I’ve been accused of wild ideas before, so here’s my rationale.
- She offers a free DVD, not the end of freedom.
- She is fit, in a MILF like way, and not in a “I wanna shag Emperor Palpatine in a sick lightning fetish” kind of way.
- As far as I know, Teresa May has not bunged out any foreign students. Just had them bunging out a load of “spider-man-web”. That’s progress.
Teresa May for Home Secretary!
Ah the heady days of the summer of 2011 in Southampton. When SCC did impose new contracts on staff making those over a certain amount take a pay cut. Quite a few people left as it was a step too far. Many went off to Hampshire or Portsmouth who paid more.
This was under Royston Smith’s watch. Who is now an MP and probably says this was one of his best achievements to his new chums in the houses of parliament. He had to save quite a bit of money apparently but spank 5 mil on the seacity museum when the private investors pulled out. They then gave away free tickets to Southampton citizens (cutting off quite a bit of initial income).
Fuck me, it doesn’t rain but it pours.
Taxpayer-funded academy chains have paid millions of pounds into the private businesses of directors, trustees and their relatives, documents obtained from freedom of information requests show.
The payments have been made for a wide range of services including consultancy fees, curriculums, IT advice and equipment, travel, expenses and legal services by at least nine academy chains.
Critics fear that the Department for Education (DfE) is not closely monitoring the circulation of public money from academies to private firms.
While defending their use of public money, one trustee of an academy chain has called for increased scrutiny of their spending. Another said a director had resigned from the trust because of fears over a conflict of interest.
Doesn’t augur well for that “all state schools to become academies” plan, does it?
I’m sure it’s a plan purely aimed at improving educational standards…
Those teachers don’t appear especially convinced.
What’s the modern equivalent of a pitchfork-wielding mob? A load of hipsters with selfie sticks? Whatever. I am starting to wonder how much shit they’re going to pull before people get animated about it.
The leaders of the Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat parties in local government have united to demand that the government drops controversial plans to force all schools to become academies by 2022 in a massive blow to its flagship education policy.
In a letter to the Observer, the parties join forces with independent councillors across England against proposals that they say are contrary to the wishes of many parents and teachers, would be hugely expensive, and fail to address the real problems in the schools’ system.
The council leaders say there is “no evidence” that academies perform better than council-maintained schools and insist that the focus must be on delivering the best education for children rather than the legal structures within which schools have to work.
We’ve covered this before, but thought this was a particularly nice response.
When Tories do racial profiling…
After receiving a letter, retired biochemist Barbara Patel wrote back to the PM, objecting to his “facile and inaccurate attempt at racial profiling”. She said: “You have made a number of assumptions based on my surname (Patel = Gujarat and Gujarat = Hindu) and have attempted to use these ethnically based assumptions to ‘scare’ me into voting for your candidate, Zac Goldsmith.
“I am not from Gujarat. I am not a Hindu, my husband’s family are lapsed Muslims. Above all, I have never been, nor ever would be, a Tory voter.”
Patel told the Cameron she was of Jewish descent and that “the most distasteful aspect” of his letter was “attempting to cause division between the London Hindu Indian community and its Muslim community, shame on you”.
It’s 'cos they all love jewellry (they can’t get enough!) and hate Muslamics, “innit” Zac and Dave? You giant fucking twats.
what’s up with that, is it that she Married an Indian bro? I am not in sympathy with her tbh, she seems like a lunatic. How can a rational person say they would never vote Tory? What, even if they was the Best Party? This kind of close-minded radicalism is causing half the world’s problems. I would prob put her on the no-fly list, even tho she isn’t Black.
Take one part teacher shortage, one part low-pay and another arbitrary rule.
Simmer for six years, pull out of the oven and enjoy one giant fucking monstrosity. We’re deporting non-EU teachers that are married to British spouses because, guess what, we don’t pay our teachers the sort of money that we say we need to pay in order for a foreigner to be “worth it”. A clusterfuck of piggish proportions.
Kelly Wilcox teaches English in a secondary school in south London. Her students are thriving. She has a boyfriend and a cat and a job she loves. She grew up in Connecticut in the US, but now her life is here. At least that’s what she thought.
Under immigration rules that come into force next month, skilled workers – including teachers – from non-EU countries will need to earn at least £35,000 to remain in the UK permanently.
With a salary of just over £29,000, Wilcox faces having to leave the country - and her beloved pupils - at a time when headteachers are facing a desperate shortage of teachers.
“All schools to become academies”
An academy chain responsible for five secondary schools that was praised byDavid Cameron and Michael Gove is to be stripped of all its schools, according to sources close to the Department for Education (DfE).
The Perry Beeches academy trust is to have its five academies and free schools in Birmingham handed over to a new academy trust following a critical financial investigation.
A report by the Education Funding Agency (EFA), published before Easter, showed financial shortcomings at Perry Beeches, including third-party payments made to the chief executive, Liam Nolan, on top of his £120,000 salary as executive headteacher. The EFA’s call for urgent action triggered an official notice from the DfE, which detailed “serious concerns about financial management, control and governance” at the trust.

That story say she only had a boyfriend not a husband - If they were married to a British citizen they could apply for a spousal visa.

That is the part of this story that worries you?
Who gives a flying fuck where she is from, or if she is married to a Brit or not? She is doing a very valuable job, of which we have a lack of people doing.
Not that pointless legislation, implemented totally cackhandedly to score some ideological points with bigots and far-right nutters is going to place further strain on our already strained supply of teachers?
I thought the argument for cutting down on immigration was to benefit us? This, and the kicking out of foreign students will have notable negative impacts.
And again, it is kids/young people** that suffer most as a result of this pointless policy decisions.
**That said, I can imagine there will be elderly folk also affected by deportation of their carers.
Stupid ruling, teachers, nurses and jobs which there are long term vacancies shouldn’t have to have this stipulation.
i dare say no teachers will be deported bc of this, but it would be nice if the Thought It Through First. On Other Hand, I don’t really see why we need to Import Canadians to teach GCSE English FFS.
