:tories: Tories in trouble?

Reckon the TV debates won’t help Truss and will improve Badenoch’s standing

Not a bad shout. She’s relatively unknown so has the ability to surprise.

I see the “Get Mordaunt” campaign has re-started this morning, with a lot of people saying that she lacks the competence to do the job.

FFS, when has that ever stopped anyone having a go before?

Why are they having a TV debate with all the remaining candidates, this isn’t some fuckin’ democratic process.
I dare say all the 16 year old, snotty nosed Little Lord Fauntleroys will be watching avidly. :lou_facepalm_2:

Actually its not a bad thing - now we have to put up with this bullshit at every general election, it is a good way of establishing if they will measure up when it really counts

Well with any luck that should see Liz well Trussed up. :lou_eyes_to_sky:

It is a bad thing. It’s a new Prime Minister. Normally you need the mandate of the country to rule and most PMs that get appointed this way know this. Some are even decent enough to have a general election to get said mandate.

Let anyone in the governing party stand, then get the public to vote.

It’s a new leader of the country. There are probably monarchs appointed in some of the trendier monarchies that have more democratic legitimacy than this.

It will come as a surprise to nobody that I am in the Goatboy camp, ie, they’re all cunts. That Badenoch creature is as mad as a box of frogs, in a dangerous kind of way. Mordaunt has been caught out doubling down on her lies about 70 million Turks waiting to invade the UK, but they are all liars, they just can’t help themselves, it’s what they do. I thought one of the reasons for getting rid of Johnson was the continual pathological lying?
I hope that Krishnan holds their feet to the fire tonight, really skewers them, he’s more than capable, he’s head and shoulders above any other mainstream media pundit at the moment. But at the end of the day I think we all know that whoever wins, be it ‘Ready for Rishi’, ‘PM for PM’ ‘Liz for Leader’,‘Time for Tom’ it will be back to the same old tried and tested Tory con trick that always seems to work in this country of sheep, the people with 99 biscuits, trying to convince the people with 1 biscuit that the people with no biscuits are trying to steal their single biscuit. Arseholes, the lot of them.

Called “Pole or Hole”.

They look at each contestant, check whether they have a pole or a hole, then everyone votes on the most impressive and reflects that either way, pole or hole, we’re fucked.

This made me chuckle. Good ol’ NaD

I think this, on the Tube, puts it eloquently, accurately and succinctly.

I watched the Novara Media video last night on this. Probably not the best Novara Media video ever. It’s a bit unseemly when you’ve got the hosts tittering over the debate - but they did also do some decent analysis.

The claims that Mordaunt is something of a lightweight may well be justified. Lord Frost said that he had to have her moved because she wasn’t detail conscious, a claim which she supported herself in the debate.

She claims that she’s not going to cut any taxes and is immediately pulled up on her pledge to cut fuel duty.

Wack wack oops, Penny.

When Liz Truss comes across better your campaign might be in trouble.

If you asked Tory members right now, they would like to vote between Kemi Badenoch and Penny Mordaunt, a choice the membership is unlikely to have once the MPs have finished their stitch-up.

They’ll end up with Sunak and someone else to pick from.

I think Badenoch might sneak in there if the MPs are brave enough. It would be very interesting if its her vs Sunak at the end.

Britain might be able to get its first brown Prime Minister. About time, but a bit embarrassing for the left that once again, it’s the Tories that pioneer.

The only minority I can recall Labour having in a serious position (shadow or otherwise) was Diane Abbot and only cos she shagged the leader

I have always found that odd - the left is supposed to be the champion of minority rights

As the Tories push through more minorities it makes Labours job harder - these aren’t privileged little posh boys - they are first or second gen immigrants who have worked bloody hard to get to where they are

Nah, of course Rishi isn’t a privileged little posh boy, he’s a living example that anyone can pull themselves up by the bootstraps in this great country of ours if they attend one of the most exclusive and expensive schools and marry the heiress to a multi billion dollar fortune.

His parents were second generation immigrants, a GP and a pharmacist. Hardly a privileged background, is it.

Rishi, granted, married well, but his parents worked hard to send him to private school - they were pharmacists, hardly multimillionaires
