Hey that reminds me of my one attempt to gamble big!
Before this record was released in 1997 it was played on Mark & Lardâs evening show on Radio One. It made such an impact it ran up huge sales as a pre-order, running into tens of thousands. I was so convinced it was going to make it to number 1 I went into Ladbooks in St Maryâs Road and tried to put a grand on it making number 1 in the first week after release.
The manager said heâd phone head officeâŠfuckers wouldnât give me a priceâŠsaid they didnât do pop-music bets and they hadnât a clue about the record. I should have tried other bookies but was discouraged and didnât bother.
The next week we sat glued to the radio for Sundayâs chart run-down and sure enough âYour Woman by White Townâ went straight in at number 1.
