Jamie Redknapp believes Liverpool could still sign Virgil van Dijk this summer
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp tried to sign Southampton defender Van Dijk earlier this summer.
The Reds’ pursuit of the Dutchman ended in comical fashion after the Anfield club had to apologise to the Saints for their aggressive transfer tactics.
While several other clubs are keen on the 26-year-old, it is understood that Van Dijk only has eyes for Liverpool.
And despite their public debacle a few weeks ago, Redknapp reckons Klopp and co will be able to get the centre-back to Merseyside.
He told Sky Sports: "Going forward Liverpool have lots of different options.
The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at struggling Valencia, scoring six goals in 33 appearances in La Liga. The Spanish prodigy also chipped in with three assists – but struggled for consistency during a turbulent season for Los Che as they finished 12th after a brief flirtation with the relegation zone. And now Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claims the young lad could be on his way to England after being deemed surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp.
El Haddadi – who has a senior cap for the Spanish national team – could be available for as little as £8m. The above footage shows just why West Ham, Southampton and Crystal Palace are all said to be keen on the youngster. Blessed with superb balance and ball control, as would be expected from a graduate of the club’s fabled La Masia youth academy, El Haddadi is more than a handful for opposition defenders.
The confident young star is quick enough to skip through tackles – but often uses his experience to draw fouls from the opposition. And Southampton fans are more than happy with the speculation. “I’d definitely take a fly on the lad,” wrote one supporter. “Third youngest scorer at Barca behind Bojan and Messi – and in this market £8m is an absolute steal.”
