We have a thread Strangely Compelling Which is a perfect review of Poor Things Yes it has the distraction of Emma Stone orgasaming every 15 minutes or so but it is so much more than that Have to say the ensemble cast is superb. ---

Having slept on it, the film has an almost addictive “wrongness”. And Wilem’s 'Scottish accent is just wonderfully in and out. A work of madness or genius. Hard to say which, but strangely compelling ---

Bob Marle: One Live Hmm. Brilliant story brilliant attention to detail, brilliant performance by Ben Kinsley Adir Some jaw drop moments for us learning parts of thecstory we didn’t know. But incredibly dark, focused on later life / Exodus days. Very enjoyed. But we did expect more of a life story Glad we watched it but it should have made us cry. It didn’t ---

Doesn’t “really” start until 1976, there are some flashbacks but from the film you’d think his 1st ever tour was in about when Saturday Night Fever came out which is why I didn’t give it a Dune 2 level rating. ---

Looking through a DVD collection given to me by a friend whose film-buff son died a couple of years ago, I discovered a Blu-ray set of Brian de Palma’s first films, starring Robert de Niro. Greetings, Hi Mom, and The Wedding Party. Quite a revelation. Sharp, witty scripts, low budget but really effective sets, and some quite superb acting from De Niro and a host of others. I noticed that Hi Mom was on the telly fairly recently, these are well worth seeing. ---

My word. What a wonderful 2hr 5m that was. Absolutely loved it. Genius story telling & film making Credit for it’s superb feel of immediate postt war Japan and overall. It fvcking rocked. $15 million of budget? That’s less than 2 episodes of modern Star Trek. Bravo. Watch it with Popcorn (or Lidl Salt n Vinegar Kettle Chips) ---

Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Guy Ritcie. A bloody marvellous romp through a true story. Kind of a Spaghetti Western feel and almost a Kellys’ Heroes lightness to it. Very enjoyable and Alan Ritchson absolutely bossed being a bad ass Jack Reacher Not winning any awards but surely a new Franchise. ---
