Renewables are improving. The cost is falling and the efficiency is getting better. [Read this from last week](http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/offshore-wind-energy-just-reached-an-incredible-milestone-in-the-uk_uk_59b668f9e4b0354e441305a8) Britain had itā€™s first day of coal free energy in [April](https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/apr/21/britain-set-for-first-coal-free-day-since-the-industrial-revolution) Back in Nov 2016 a [report](http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/half-electricity-low-carbon-first-time-report-drax-climate-change-environment-a7414936.html?cmpid=facebook-post) showed that 50% of our energy needs had been met by low emission sources between July and Sept 2016. We are very lucky to have some of the best conditions for wind turbines. Rather than just saying ā€œIntermittent renewables arenā€™t the answer IMHOā€, suggest a solution instead. Although Iā€™m getting the impression that youā€™re not a climate change believer, so probably donā€™t see the need for a solution? Are you going to say that the whole problem is made up to keep wind turbine manufacturers in work? (That end bit seems to have come out a little aggressive - itā€™s not meant to be) ---

Sorry Fatso, my comment on intermittent renewables should have been appended to P\_Sā€™ comment ā€œWe have off shore wind farms everybody farts you canā€™t deny thatā€ - would have made more sense then :lou_facepalm_2: No, am not a climate change denier, though am of the opinion that despite improving efficiencies wind / solar arenā€™t sufficient to produce the UKā€™s energy needs all day every day 365 days a year- especially, for instance if the Govt imposes a move to all electric cars and phase out all fossil fuels. The answer? I dunno. Do you? ---

I agree with you. Wind and solar are unlikely right now to produce all of our energy needs. We are investing (badly) in nuclear as well. There has to be a mix. It would be foolish, IMO, to not take advantage of the wind power potential that we have. We do need to invest more in renewables, not just production but research as well, otherwise weā€™ll end up in the familiar position of being behind everyone else in terms of technology. But this isnā€™t just about Britain, renewables are a sensible way for all countries to head, particularly solar for some of the poorer nations. ---

v.dangerous harvesting all them winds tho. If we take all the winds and convert them to electricities, what will blow the clouds along? I bet it happens when a rain cloud is just passing over my house. What will happen to my house price, when it turns out there is gonna be a rain cloud just sitting there, pissing on me for the rest of All Eternity? ---

I read somewhere, a while ago maybe, that if they turned the whole of the Australian outback into solar farms they could generate enough leccy to power the world many times over. Forget the logisitics about running power cables around the would and all thatā€¦ ---

Hell yeah. Iā€™ve the best part of a ton of the stuff sitting in my back yard neatly piled in 25 kilo sacks. (same with logs). Last couple of winters have been too warm for regular open fires - so am doing my bit and inadvertently hording fossil fuel to stop anyone else burning itā€¦ ---

As you can see from the picture below the just stop oil activists are using Heinz tomato soup which has a plastic coating on the inside made from? Yes thats right OIL. The labels are also printed with ink also made from OIL. I can guarantee the tee shirts are printed with an ink derived from correct again OIL.
