I have been following discussions on Saints on the Echo on line site and must admit the quality of the posts was very depressing with too many posts by people who just do not understand the way things work.

So I started following the Sotonians posts and I must admit this is a site for proper fans and appears to be well informed and as a result decided to sign up.

One thing re the new manager I read on Football Italia that when Rudi Garcia was sacked by Roma they agreed to continue paying him his £2.8 million salary until he got a new job or it ran out in 2018. Looks like this could have been a factor on why he appears to have dropped down the pecking order.

If Pellegrini is interested in the job then he looks a good option. I know that with the players Man City have got any one can win trophies there but it his record at Villarreal that impresses me.

This is getting stupid now. Are you paying people to join up, Pap?

Interesting - and welcome to Sotonians Smuggins!

I believe that Matthew Le God (MLG) posted that we were willing to pay Koeman £4.5m/year.

IF that’s the case, then I reckon we would have been able to meet or exceed the £2.8m Rudi, Rudi, Rudi was/is on.

Re Pellegrini, I agree his record is excellent and he seems tactically astute too. Others have said that he might not fit in with our views on formation and youth pathway. We’ll see I guess.

I reckon if i had choice between £2.8m for doing nothing, or £4.5m to teach JWP where the goal is, i would take the £2.8m

No! I think we might have hit our first critical mass period. That new manager thread has drawn a lot of people onto the site. They’ve probably seen us not freaking out, our general refusal to melt down, and haven’t factored in the abundance of weed in play. They conclude “hey, these are really chilled out guys”.

They’ve never been present at the end of a season-ending session after a wallet loss incident, is all I’m saying :lou_wink_2:

£2.8m would mean that I would never do anything ever again.

I thought this was a ‘For Sale’ thread.

Back to the pump.

I’ve never seen Pap as a father figure, more of a gobby wild-haired doorstop.

Phil the Truks recently devalued their Lira, it’s now about 3.5 Lira to the £

Right, Pap, think we need some ground rules here. If all these ‘noobs’ are going to be signing up willy nilly, then they need to realise they have to meet up for drinks with the rest of us fuckheads, or they’ll be pwned.

Of course there is special dispensation for posters like Bearsy, who we’re all afraid will spoil the illusion if we meet him.

The monster is out of control.

You’ll need to hire a hall and introduce ticketing for pre-match meet-ups.

It was that ad in the classifieds in the Daily Echo that has done it! Quite cheap you know!

I would agree that the drinks meetups are incredibly fun, but by no means the only means of participation.

There’s a whole Monkey Tennis thread waiting to be created on a Sotonians tagline, but having a Reasonably Serious Discussion on why fans of Southampton Football Club might like the cut of our jib, Saints-wise, it’s because we’re not a pack of miserable fuckers on the matter.

We haven’t really got anyone with a complete downer on the team’s prospects. Sure, we all fret, and perhaps we’re being complacent in this particular meltdown.

We’re not uncritical of the club, but neither do we spin one aspect of it into the whole. Ralph Krueger is a perfect example. We know he’s great for some stuff, crap for others and it gets called as is.

No-one’s blind. Everyone realises that football is a perilous business and we could just as easily be entertaining a weekly cup final for every lower league team. We all remember those dark days when Michael Fialka’s mum could have been our Commercial Director (?).

We do want the Saints to do well though, and it’s perhaps no surprise that the staple fayre of “Saints will never be a Champions League club” hasn’t been chewed on here.

Even after Leicester, few on here probably expect us to “do a Leicester”, but in general, the owners have been moving us slowly forward. We’re already at the Europa League group stage. I wouldn’t expect an immediate progression from that status; the competition has taken a heavier toll on better-staffed clubs.

I reckon that the Sotonians difference on Saints, if there is one, is that people on here want us to do well, even if we’re hoping beyond hope. In other places, I get the sense that it would end some people’s worlds if we were regularly gatecrashing the Champions League, and I have never ever got that.
