Just collecting a few of the issues that people have reported so far, so we can keep all feature requests in one place, and not all over the shop.

Background

The forum software we're using is third party, relatively new to me.  Rome wasn't built in a day, but this forum was installed in one :)  That's a good and a bad thing.

The other consideration is people,. including me, that are used to how things are done elsewhere.

Requests since going live

Things that have been requested so far:-

Complete

Books category
added for saintbletch.

Better quoting (Coxford Lou & Chertsey).   In the first instance, planning on changing this so we automatically blockquote.  Next step on the road map will be putting the replied to user in the blockquote, TSW style.   Finally, we'll look at multi-quoting

More media embeds (bletch)  This should be a simple one.   We need to add YouTube / media button to the editor to allow more video types to be added.

Fix on editing posts and adding a poll  (bug from original code).   There's an issue with the site when editing a post and trying to add a poll.

Smilies (Bear, "formal" specification below)

I do quite like to have smiley things, but they don't need to be normal ones, they can be special or saints related ones we make ourselves, like i.e. we could have one of i.e. tokyos face that means i.e. homosex and one of i.e. dejan lovren face that means i.e. cunt

Immediate needs

Preview function To stop people looking like idiots, apparently.
Paging People don't like having to click "Load more posts" all the time.  Neither do I.  A nice paging metaphor will do lovely.

Longer term roadmap

Assignable points (Spudders) - give posters an allowance of points, purely to be given to other posters.   This would accrue over time.   I'm thinking it should be a weekly thing, based on the weekly rock stars.

Tapatalk (Bill Gate's oven glove) - tapatalk integration for mobile devices.   Need to look into difficulty of this before committing to a timeframe.

Moving on

Please use this thread to ask for new stuff, or complain about the way that things currently work.  One of the benefits of running my own thing is that it segues quite nicely with my professional experience.   I'm keen to differentiate on that front, so I am all ears.

Hello

How does a forum get accepted by Tapatalk?

Would be good to get the 'like' functionality up and running.  Also if you could introduce reputations points for us to give out willy-nilly like sweets that'd be great :)

The like stuff is really encapsulated in vote up, vote down,  Spudders.   So if you like something, vote it up.  If you don't, vote it down.

The allocatable points idea is genius.   It shouldn't be too hard, and is a nice carrot for return visits and suchlike.   I'm thinking maybe people accrue points like annual leave.

Hello

How does a forum get accepted by Tapatalk?

I think it's a case of me installing the software, or at least a Tapatalk API implementation.  saintbletch has actually done loads of work with Tapatalk.

I'll reach out to him to determine how easy integration would be.

In the meantime, the site does hold up quite admirably on mobile devices.   Tested it with Chrome on my phone and tablet.   The only thing the phone doesn't do well is composing posts.

Good thinking, that way when Tokyo "accidently" posts up tubgirl, instead of banning him, you can just take away some of his points!  Actually using Tokyo as an example of someone who's built up reputation points was probably unrealistic. Let's use Bear in that example instead! :)

gr8 news i used to post on another forum + i made loads of suggestions + not one of them was implemented or even acknowledged, the head bros at the other forum just ignored me disdainfully for a period + then quietly erased my suggestions from forum records.

I've added yours (and others) suggestions into the OP.

The other thing to take a look at, and perhaps suggest, are new badge types.   We're presently rocking with those that come with the site, but there's no reason we can't add our own, that are quite custom.

e,g, MonkEnroe - awarded when you start 20 posts in Monkey Tennis.  Explanation: "You cannot be serious"

A lot of scope for a lot of fun.

Or is it?

Hey I wonder what pap will be doing for fractions?  Do they exist?  Who will be first to get one?

Basically, yeah.   The site tracks leaderboard activity by week and year.   If you go to the Leaderboards link on the main navigation, that is bang up to date.   Some of the widgets on the sides lag behind a little.

Some of the Badge awards come with a point value too.   Photogenic is worth 20 points, for example.
